about

Porembela is a set that encompasses what we are trying to do as a band, namely exploring each other's musical culture both through the prism of our own and through the common prism of Welsh traditional music.

This set is composed by three traditional tunes from our homelands. The first,
popularly known as Marcha de Breixo is a processional march which used to play José Antonio Bellón Breixo, piper from the area of Ortigueira, in the North of Galicia. This tune has been recorded by very well known pipers, such as Patrick Molard, or Xosé Manuel Budiño.

The tune, Równy, is a type of a chodzony, a Polish walking dance. They could be used for walking the newly wed to the house (coming back from the church), or leaving the guests out of the party, so in a sense also a type of processional music.

The set finishes with "Neidod Twm Bach", a traditional Welsh slip jig which we have spiced up with an extra part composed by Michał.
